Game Library List and Curation
Geekway is home to over 2100 individual game titles. These are brought on-site to Geekway Prime and Geekway Mini, and are available to check out using your badge.
All other times of the year, these games are housed at Miniature Market’s Rock Hill location (directions) and are available during their regular business hours to play for a nominal fee of $5 per group, per day, one game at a time. (See Miniature Market Library Access FAQs and Policies page.)
Curation
The Geekway Library is owned by Geekway LLC. It has been acquired over the past 20 years to provide games for the annual Geekway events — Prime, Mini, Micro, etc. Some games in the library are only available at Geekway Prime in May. These include collector’s editions, out of print, hard to find, or titles that are too large to have out all year round.
The library is curated to include a wide variety of games but is limited by space constraints — it is simply not possible to have every game, so choices must be made.
The main resource used for choosing which games to include is the ranking system employed on BoardGameGeek. The Geekway Library currently houses around 95% of the top 2000 games on BoardGameGeek.
There are some games that do not make sense to include in the library. Legacy games are a prime example. Also, collectible card games are difficult to properly maintain in a relevant way. Multiple editions of the same game are also scrutinized to determine if having multiple editions is necessary.
Another tool used to curate the library is the checkout system used at all Geekway events. This data allows us to see what games get played the most and which games gather dust on our shelves.
The Geekway library is always willing to accept donations, but not all donations are necessarily a good fit for the library. We try to accommodate as many as we can, but unfortunately some do not make the cut.
