Geek Guides (Volunteering)
What do Geek Guides Do?
Geek Guides make Geekway to the West as great as it is! We need more hands and help beyond our board members to help make sure that everyone has a great convention. If you have registered for Geekway Prime, we hope you consider signing up for a couple of shifts as a Geek Guide!
In appreciation, Geek Guides may receive a T-shirt, special door prize drawings, and other benefits depending on the number of shifts worked.
Setup/Teardown
We set up our Library and Play and Win rooms on the day before the convention. If you’re in town, we’d love your help. This is a physically demanding position, including moving pallet jacks, setting up shelving, and hauling boxes of games.
On the final day of the convention, we also need people to help us box up the library, break down shelves, and help move things back to the truck.
In the days following the convention, we need help reshelving and organizing games at Miniature Market.
Registration
As a Registration Geek Guide, you will work in the Geekway HQ, giving people their badges and answering questions. Shifts are 2 hours long.
Game Librarian
Librarian Geek Guides check games in and out with our computerized library system, help people find games to play, keep the shelves neat and tidy, and answer general questions.
Play and Win Monitor
Much like the Librarians, the Play and Win Monitor helps out in the Play and Win room. Play and Win tends to be busier than the library, and also involves a more complicated check-in procedure, due to the Play and Win entries.
How to Sign Up
Emails with links to signups for Prime will go out in February, first to Specialized Geek Guides (Brute, Loot, and Boot Squads, Flea Market Guides) and then slightly later to all Previous Geek Guides. One perk of volunteering is that in future years you will get a little bit of a head start to sign up! Signups will open for everyone two weeks later.
Once the password is removed, anyone is free to sign up for a Geek Guide shift on Sign Up Genius:

Early Registration + Play and Win Access
In appreciation for the time Geek Guides contribute during the convention, we’d like to give you the opportunity to pick up your badges and play games in our Play & Win library on Wednesday night before Geekway officially starts. (And yes, you can enter these plays!)

Exclusive Raffle Prizes
For each hour you volunteer, you receive one entry into a Geek Guide-exclusive prize raffle. You can earn a maximum of 12 entries across all shifts. Previously the raffle included board games and Miniature Market gift cards. We’d like to make the prizes a bit juicer and so now the raffle prizes include…

- Geekway Prime 2027 Hotel Patron badges (These are non-transferable badges to Geekway Prime that come with access to the Prime hotel block and exclusive Geekway Patron swag.)
- Miniature Market Gift Cards

Meeple Money
Some shifts are harder to fill than others. Difficult-to-fill shifts are labeled [EARNS MEEPLE MONEY]. You’ll get $10 in Meeple Money for each difficult-to-fill shift you register for. What’s Meeple Money, you rightfully ask? It’s a gift certificate you can use for purchases (ex: blankets, hoodies, shirts, backpacks) at the Geekway Merch booth.
Shirts
All Geek Guides get a shirt if they want one! Design TBD.
